2014_Exhibition in London for 'Dol' Project

지난 20일, 21일 이틀간 Tent London 전시 차 런던에 다녀왔습니다. 1박 2일의 짧은 일정이었지만, London Design Week를 통해 다양한 작품들을 접할 수가 있었던 좋은 기회였습니다. 무엇보다 저의 'Dol' 작품을 선보일 수 있었던 자리라 더욱 뜻깊었던 일정이었습니다.

지난 8월 19일, 광화문에서 디노마드 강의가 열렸었습니다. 애초에 120명 수용 강의였는데, 그보다 더욱 많은 350분께서 신청해주셔서 놀라움과 감사함이 교차했었습니다. 선착순으로 120분만 오실 수 있었던 부분에 있어서 너무나 죄송스럽고, 다음에 또 좋은 기회에 뵙길 기대합니다.

1시간 반 시간 동안에 저의 책 이야기, 건축과 인테리어 분야에서의 디지털 테크놀로지 접목 프로세스에 대해 이야기 나누어 보았습니다. 특히, 개인적으로 관심이 많기에 지속적으로 고민하고 연구중에 있었지만, 아직 우리나라에서는 매우 생소하기만 한 컴퓨테이셔널 디자인(Computational Design)과 디지털 패브리케이션(Digital Fabrication)에 대한 많은 이야기를 전달할 수 있었던 뜻깊은 시간이었던 것 같습니다. 많은 질문들을 통해 저 또한 제 자신을 되돌아 보는 시간이었기도 합니다. 많은 관심을 가져주셔서 너무나 감사했습니다.

8월에 잠시 한국 귀국하여 한달간 머무르게 되었습니다. 오랜만에 오니 참 좋습니다. 무엇보다 맛있는 음식들이 반겨주니 너무나도 신납니다. 제 입맛은 토종이거든요.

6월 1일자로 '디자이너's Pro 건축 인테리어 디자인'이 출간되었습니다. 디지털 컴퓨테이션 툴들이 어떠한 방식으로 건축, 인테리어 디자인 프로세스에 적용이 될 수 있는지 나름 간단하면서도 이해하기 쉽게 설명을 해보고자 하였습니다. 부족하지만 제 프로젝트들을 소개하며 이를 풀어보았는데, 지난 1년여간의 시간동안 공들인 집필작업이 드디어 결실을 맺게 되어 기쁩니다.

몇 일전에 두번째 서적 집필 계약을 하였습니다. 이 두번째 서적은 전보다는 더 이론적이고, 개념적이지만 주관적인 저의 생각들이 더 담길 수 있는 책으로 준비하고자 합니다. 전의 부족했던 부분들을 더 채워, 더욱 겸허히 준비해보겠습니다.

 길벗 출판사, 디노마드(www.dnomade.com)와 함께 '디자이너's Pro 건축 인테리어 디자인' 출간 기념으로 렉쳐하게 되었습니다. 출간된 서적과 연관하여 디지털 컴퓨테이션을 더 자세히 설명해보고자 합니다. 새롭게 진행하였던 'Concrete Fabric'과 'Dol' 등도 함께 선보이게 될 듯 싶습니다.

Tent London (9월 18일 ~ 21일)

9월 18일에서 21일까지 영국 런던 Tent London 전시회(www.tentlondon.co.uk)의 'Son Meot' 부스에서 'Dol'을 선보이게 되었습니다. 현재 제작 완료하여 조만간 영국으로 배송하게 될 예정입니다. 개인적으로 저 또한 9월 20일, 21일 이틀간 전시회 이유로 런던에 있을 예정이니 잠깐이라도 stop by 하실 수 있는 분들은 놀러와주세요.

어쩌면 벨기에에서도 전시회를 진행할 수도 있을듯 싶습니다. 아직 확정되지 않았으니 추후 업데이트 하겠습니다.

이번 봄 새롭게 진행하였던 가구 프로젝트 'Dol'이 Tent London 전시(www.tentlondon.co.uk)에 초대되었습니다. 9월 18일부터 21일까지 영국 런던에서 진행됩니다. 많은 관심 부탁드립니다.

이번 전시는 한양대학교와 함께 합니다.

드디어 다음주 발매로, 지난 일년반 시간 동안 준비해왔던 책이 결실을 맺게 되었습니다. 새로운 도전이었기에 두려움도 많았지만, 설렘과 즐거움이 많았던 작업이었습니다. 저의 지식은 얕지만, 그래도 그동안 시중에서는 볼 수 없었던 새로운 형태의 건축, 인테리어 실용서를 내보고 싶은 마음이 컸기에 학기 중에도 준비하면서 밤을 많이 지새웠던 시간들이 생각나네요. 다양한 프로그램의 멀티태스킹 가능성을 소개함으로해서 앞으로 더욱 다양한 디자인과 프로젝트들이 넘쳐나길 기대합니다. 이 책이 실현되기에 큰 도움을 주신 교수님, 선배님들, gsapp사람들 감사드립니다.

It's been about one and a half year preparing for this book, and finally finally................even though I have shallow knowledge, it was a wonderful experience to write a book and worth spending so many nights working on it during the semesters. I really enjoyed it. Hope this book enriches future design and projects by allowing with the possibility of computation multitasking in architecture and interior design fields.

Spring 2014_Hong Kong Visit

이제 좀 제대로된 블로그 활동을 시작해보고자,

밀렸던 사진들을 정리해보았습니다.

그 첫번째로 먼저 3월중순에 방문하였던 홍콩 사진들을 나눌까 합니다.

학교 리서치 개념으로 진행되었던 5일간의 방문은, 홍콩의 과거와 현재를 리서치 바탕으로 앞으로의 다가올 홍콩을 그려보는 시나리오 플래닝(Scenario Planning)을 진행하고자 마련되었습니다.

처음 가보는 홍콩은 동료들과 함께 기대 이상으로 좋은 추억으로, 기억으로 남게 되었네요.

2014_Happy New Year!

2013년은 정말 다사다난 했던 해였던 것 같습니다. 그만큼 시간 또한 빨리 지났갔던 것 같네요.
올 한해에도 좋은 일들만 가득하길 바라면서, 주위의 많은 사람들도 따뜻한 소식들만 넘쳐나길 바라는 하루입니다.

2014년에도 지금까지 해보지 못했던 새로운 시도들을 많이 진행할 것 같습니다. 조만간 좋은 소식 들려드릴 수 있을 것 같습니다. Stay tuned!

21 Century Korea has been the most rapidly developed country compared to no other in Asia, and the trend-sensitive Korea market has been the first testing spot for the global corporations of their launching items. As to this, Korea housing market is also showing a fast change as it is reflecting the rapid trend of consumer lifestyle. People started to avoid standardized apartments and have interest in townhouses, duplex houses, and later on thinking of efficiency with passive houses. Along with this flow, this project will introduce a new possibility of showing an alternative residential prototype of transforming existing duplex house as it will satisfy the change of consumer needs. 

 Built 23 years ago, and had been abandoned for the last 8 years, the key point of remodeling this wrecked duplex house was to melt the two unit and combine into a new set of space composition. The needs of the client were added to this existing space forming variety combinations of plan study, and the most applicable space composition was made. For the elevation, some of the previous masonry walls were left showing the contrast of ‘old’ and ‘new’ as they melt into each other forming an unique new space. Considering on human scale, variety sizes of space division were applied to the ‘new’ wall allowing the client’s life to melt into this ‘space canvas’ and showing harmony one another.

Especially for the design of the facade, the human activities were studied that would be expected to be held within the interior spaces. With digital computational calculation of louver module design, the study was applied to the portion of the facade that corresponded with the space of the interior.

Computing calculation을 이용한 외부 루버 파사드가 완성 되었습니다. 내부 역시 마지막 마감만 기다리는 상황입니다.

계속되는 비 때문에 공정 변경이 시급했습니다. 내부 방통공사 진행과 동시에 외부 파사드 작업이 진행되는 중입니다. 다행히 오후부터 소강상태를 보여 외부 몰탈 공사 진행에 한시름 놓았습니다.

The construction process needed to be changed because of the continuously pouring rain. As the interior floor works were proceeded the exterior facade was also on the way. Fortunately, the rain stopped during the afternoon, and the exterior mortar works were able to be done. Guess the weather was on our side!

계속되는 장마로 인하여 공사 진행에 있어서 어려움이 많습니다. 그래도 벽공사는 마무리되어 전반적인 형태는 갖춰졌습니다.


Because of the continuous rain, there are some problems as the construction is proceeding. However, the wall construction is finished and ready to step onto the next stage.

7월 시작과 함께 공사도 예정대로 시작하게 되었습니다. 철거공사를 시작으로 두 세대를 나누는 조적 벽들을 철거하고 기본 실내 구조 공사를 순조롭게 진행했습니다. 다만, 장마시즌과 맞물리면서 현장소장과 함께 걱정과 많은 스트레스에 시달렸었지만 다행히 오늘 방수공사를 마무리 지을 수가 있어서 한시름 놓습니다. 디자인에서 의도했던 공간의 느낌이 실제로도 나타나기 시작해서 기분이 좋네요. 새로운 흰 벽의 마감과 세월을 머금은 그대로 느낌의 조적벽의 대비...긴 복도 끝에서 밝게 흩뿌려주는 빛...

오랜만의 톱밥냄새, 타카소리, 톱다이 소리...

The construction started as it was planned on the first day of July. Starting with demolishing work, the masonry walls that divided the two houses were demolished and continued with interior structure works. There was a big concern with the construction because of the monsoon season in Korea, but was relieved after all the waterproof work on the roof was finished. The space itself started to show the intention of the original design, as it showed the contrast of the new walls and the 23-year old masonry walls, and the scattering light far at the end of the long corridor...

It's been a while...the sawdust smell, the sound of the nail gun and the saw table...
